Perception

“Perception has been the only piece I have written to date which did not carry extra musical meaning. It is the synthesis of rhythm and harmony and is simply meant to be heard. The piece uses all three octatonic scales for its harmonic material. A few transitions from one scale to the next are the only points where the piece is not strictly in one octatonic scale or another. I gave sparce dynamic indications because, overall, this piece needs to groove to be effective.”
